until 04.11.| #3978ARTatBerlin | Galerie Brockstedt presents from 9. September 2023 the exhibition SPATIUM with paintings and collages by the artist Tino Geiss.
Tino Geiss, Blumenstrauss, 2023, 68 x 45, Acrylic, paper tape, lacquer on forex
The rooms into which Tino Geiss leads us breathe silence: no living people – only their likenesses on busts or paintings – no animals, only plants adorn the lushly furnished interiors. Our eyes linger at first on the varied and painterly realistically executed details, but are lured deeper and deeper into new suggested perspectives: Other rooms, windows, door frames, staircases, galleries or pictures suggest levels behind them, which the artist staggers into one another like a collage with brisk brushstrokes, as if these realistic-looking rooms wanted to guide us into deeper layers of our consciousness.

Were they a surrealistic image of the many experiences of life that belong to us and constitute us, whose images and emotions overlap in our memory, each in its own space of our soul? In their sum, then, a mosaic of our very personal soul-building in which we feel at home and have a firm hold?
Tino Geiss, Bouquet (Rosen, Flieder), 2022, 156 x 100, Acrylic, paper tape, lacquer on forex
The open and mysterious spaces of Tino Geiss invite us to shape them with our very own associations, to transform them to ourselves. Especially the latest black-and-white works, in which his formerly so opulently present colourfulness exists only as playfully dabbed reminiscences, seem to call for our personal colour.
Tino Geiss, Weltraum, 2019, 80 x 51, Acrylic on canvas
What would be a possible message? We need spaces to develop, especially our strengths, and these must be protected. The interior spaces are connected
with the outdoor spaces, as the painter mostly thematised them in earlier years. We are actively responsible for the design of all of them. They concern us all together, because they are – more than ever – interconnected!
And as a “reward”, the artist offers us here and there splendid bouquets of flowers, which in their opulent and exploding colourfulness give us joy and lightness.
Opening: Saturday, 9. September 2023, 6:00 – 9:00 pm
