until 07.05. | #3445ARTatBerlin | Köppe Contemporary presents  from 12. April 2022 (Opening on 08.04.) the exhibition Turbulenzen by the artist Simone Kornfeld.

Light and the unlimited play a primary role in Simone Kornfeld’s art: exploring the possibilities of colour to the extreme, as well as the dissolution of limitations, are two of her themes.

Simone Kornfeld has developed her oeuvre from her decades of experimentation with the phenomenon of colour. Colour action, colour intensity and colour movement are the dominant stylistic elements of her art. Simone Kornfeld paints her large-format pictures with verve, layer by layer: “I paint with my bare fingers around the picture lying on the floor, circling in a dance-like, playful movement.”

Despite all the different aesthetic approaches in her art, the references in her oeuvre to lyrical and gestural abstract painting are unmistakable. There is no standstill in this painting. The richness of colours, colour swirls and eddies, braid-like forming or dissolving line webs as well as diagonal, horizontal and vertical interconnections lend the artist’s motifs a lively characteristic that oscillates between the micro and macro levels. They are as reminiscent of morphological forms and molecular structures as they are of cosmic processes.

Atmospheric spaces are created in the painting process. The intensity of the picture’s effect is heightened by complementary and light-dark contrasts and luminous colour formations. Here and there, figurative elements are hinted at in the motifs. Corporeal forms evoke associations with figurative, landscape or floral elements. Even the early works seem to be inspired by impressions of nature.

Simone Kornfeld has charged her art into a highly complex colour universe. Sometimes the painter’s brush or fingers seem to write energy traces on the canvas as if unleashed. Often the work becomes an emotional vehicle of expression – unbound by any constraint – and it seems as if it even bursts the limitations of the painting. Then the restless, extremely unleashed, agitated and turbulent is juxtaposed with the calmed, the melancholy and contemplation.

It is as if elementary human experiences play into Simone Kornfeld’s œuvre – memories of life processes, of experiences or states. It is such special references within her colour painting that give her art a very individual touch and a suggestive radiance.
