until 06.01. | #1757ARTatBerlin | Robert Morat Galerie shows from 18th November 2017 the exhibition „Infinite Loop“ by the artist Ron Jude.

The exhibition includes two photographic series by the American artist Ron Jude: “Lago” from 2015 and “Nausea”, a project from 1992 that has been re-edited on the occasion of its 25th anniversary and is currently available as a new MACK Books publication. 25 years ago, the exhibition of “Nausea” at The Photographer’s Gallery in London marked the starting point for Ron Jude’s international career as a photographer. The series also set the theme for his artistic work since then: a philosophical contemplation of the world by means of photography.

The title of “Nausea” refers to Jean Paul Sartre’s existential novel of the same name (“La Nausée” in French). It is a collection of interior views and still lifes from school buildings in the American South, glances into classrooms, along school floors and onto chalkboards and school benches. In fact, the photographer takes the outer world only as an opportunity to think about reality and how much memory affects our view of things. The series is a reflection on perception and the question of whether “reality” represents a similar or different experience for everyone – and to what extent photography succeeds in allowing others to share the artist’s experience.

“Lago”, a series of landscapes and documentary still lifes, is also a work on “remembrance”. For Ron Jude, it is about the return to a place of his childhood, the Salton Sea in the Southern California desert. It is, therefore, again not only a description of place, an experience of its reality, but also a reconfirmation of the “inner” images which this place left in the photographer’s memory. Jude invites the viewer to share his experience of the past and, ultimately, to revisit his or her own memories of childhood places.

Ron Jude, born in 1965, lives and works in Eugene, Oregon. He teaches photography at the University of Oregon. His work is found in important collections such as the George Eastman House, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Georgia Museum of Contemporary Art in Atlanta. Both series, “Nausea” and “Lago”, are available as publications at Mack Books, London.

Vernissage: Friday, 17th November 2017, 07:00 p.m.
