until 23.04. | #3373ARTatBerlin | Migrant Bird Space presents from 11th March 2022 the group exhibition Poppy and Recollection with abstract pantings by the artists Clara Brörmann, Huang Jia, Xia Peng and Wang Kaifan.

Our life is often split between what’s tangible and what’s abstract, such as the concepts of freedom, will, spirit and existence. These notions allow us to take a step back and look beyond the general narrative, trying to surpass some insurmountable reality, hoping to get rid of what is anchoring us to the material world, to finally set our souls free.

The purpose of this exhibition is to introduce the creations of these artists living in Berlin, who are eager to break free from the rigid artistic constrictions of this era. The works are characterized by sharp edges and corners or liquid and flowing abstract shapes, bright colors. In the meantime, they also depict geometrically intertwined spaces with rich and bright colors, which are reminiscent of urban life and the relationship between man and nature. Witnessing Berlin’s life and art activities, this collective has been “inspired” – that is, their artistic production mainly generates from the feelings aroused by everyday life’s encounters.

Clara Brörmann
Shapes and colours harmoniously grow together in Clara’s paintings, finding balance as anthropomorphic geometry. In her works, the human body becomes the reference value, the starting point.

Huang Jia
Although many may see Huang Jia’s art changing throughout the years, she defines her creative vein coming down in one continuous line. Starting from early realistic painting, Huang Jia later on began to pay attention to the small details around her and through subtraction she refined and purified her artistic language.

Xia Peng
The unrestrained freedom of navigating complexity and simplicity in Xia Peng’s paintings is due to his ability to combine his experience in Chinese traditional art and the understanding of Western contemporary art.

Wang Kaifan
Wang Kaifan was born in an area where Chinese and Mongolian cultures blend. Growing up, changing region and place to live, corresponded to a switch of his own identity. The circumstances led him to feeling tossed between different religious and cultures.
