until 04.05. | #4216ARTatBerlin | Galerie Dittmar shows from 21. March 2024 the exhibition by the artist Myriam El Haïk.

The Moroccan-French artist and composer Myriam El Haïk lives and works in Berlin and Rabat. Her artistic language is based on certain signs and patterns and is inspired by both Moroccan and European culture. In her work, she focuses on the connection between music and visual art and develops notation systems whose starting point are repetitive, minimalist musical pieces, the artist’s compositions.

Her works correspond to visual transcriptions of musical structures, as does her installations, videos and performances. These richly rhythmic forms of expression are both complex and reduced, cross-media and internally coherent. In addition to solo and group exhibitions in Morocco and Europe, the artist has had performance appearances in Paris, London, Montreal and New York.

In 2022 she was a participant in the Biennale in Berlin at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art. Her large spatial installation work included, among other things, paintings, wall drawings and her own compositions, like “immersive rituals” (Myriam El Haïk), which were performed on the piano at numerous performances. She later developed this concept further, for example in the Tempelhof Museum Berlin and currently in the Kunsthalle Extra City in Antwerp (Carpetland. Critical tapestries). In a recently published comprehensive publication on the Bauhaus, Missing the Bauhaus, she is represented with a detailed contribution to her work.
