until 26.05. | #1936ARTatBerlin | Stella A. shows from 13th April 2018 the exhibition “Gedächtnislücken” (>”memory lapses”) with laser- and pochoir prints by the artist Katharina Kohl.

For many years Katharina Kohl has dedicated herself to portrait painting, which was already presented at our gallery both in single and group exhibitions (2009, 2012). In 2012 she started a series of portraits of detectives, prosecutors and protectors of the constitution who were involved in the investigation of the homicides and homicide robbery by the NSU (a far right extremist group in Germany). During her research she studied the witness proceedings from the parliamentary commission of inquiry formed for this purpose. There she found an accumulation of different expressions of non-memory.

The gaps of memory presented in this exhibition is illuminating/ is focusing on this inability to remember. Katharina Kohl has blackened specific passages in the questioning records in such a way that only the formulation of the witnesses` non-remembrance can be seen. Thus a series of pictorial phrases has emerged, sometimes resembling concrete poetry in their unintended comical and absurd effect. Whether these are real lapses of memory or self-protective statements or intentional concealments remains an open question.

Vernissage: Thursday, 12th April, 07:00 – 09:00 p.m.

Exhibition period: Friday, 13th April – Saturday, 26th May 2018
