until 21.01. | #3703ARTatBerlin | ARTES Berlin presents from 12 September 2022 the group exhibition Inventing Color.
“The colour has me. I don’t need to hunt for it. It has me forever. This is the meaning of the happy hour: I and the colour are one. I am a painter.”
In the group exhibition INVENTING COLOR, ARTES Berlin shows works that deal with the theme of colour and light. The show takes a look at the most diverse approaches of artists in dealing with form, contrast, intensity and their perception by the viewers. The gallery presents works by Selçuk Dizlek, Marie Athenstaedt, Andy Warhol, Isa Dahl, Rhea Standke, Nikolaos Schizas, Heinz Mack, Ruri Matsumoto, Gerhard Richter, Fintan Whelan, Fabian Gatermann, Imi Knoebel, Marion Eichmann, Christian Awe, among others.
Colour can be stimulation, meditation and passion. It can also evoke confusion, powerlessness and revulsion. Colouring is deeply subjective to perception and interpretation and fascinates viewers and artists alike. Since antiquity, science and art have been concerned with colour theory. Aristotle developed a concept based on seven basic colours that was valid until the 17th century.
The examination of colour theory culminated first with Goethe and then, at the time of the Bauhaus, with Johannes Itten. They prepared the theoretical way for the painters who, although working in abstraction or figuration, illuminated and illuminated the theme of INVENTING COLOR from a compositional and material-technical perspective in its transmedial significance.
