until 28.10. | #1595ARTatBerlin | Arratia Beer shows from 16th September 2017 the exhibition “For a Skeleton to Hang Soft Tissues On” by the artist Holly Hendry.

Holly Hendry’s sculptural works deal with internal and external in terms of the body, display and production – architectural rear spaces and hidden bodily activities or situations that are brought into view through specific objects, textures or forms.

Skeleton to Hang Soft Tissues On, Holly Hendry’s first solo exhibition in Berlin, is new body of work specifically made for the gallery space. It is partly based on items from The Mütter Museum’s collection of swallowed objects; a collection of ingested objects recovered by Doctor Chevalier Jackson who meticulously catalogued his recoveries. The combination of both strange and utterly ordinary objects is dead-live matter – things that are akin to miniature tombstones of their former hosts.

Holly Hendry (b. 1990, London) lives and works in London. She received a BA in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2013 and her MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in 2016. In 2017 the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art presented a solo exhibition of her works. Hendry has also exhibited at the GL Strand, Copenhagen 2017; Vitrine, London 2016; Limoncello Cork St, 2016; Cowley Manor, Sculpture commission, 2016; Secret Garden Party, Sculpture commission, 2015 and the Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah, UAE, 2014. Holly Hendry’s work will be included in the Liverpool Biennial 2018.
