until 26.10. | #2218ARTatBerlin | Verein zur Förderung von Kunst und Kultur am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz shows from 21st September 2018 the exhibition project I’ll Get You Fit by the End of the Summer! by the Berlin sculptor Hannah Hallermann.

The Kunstverein is delighted to present I’ll Get You Fit by the End of the Summer! , an exhibition project specially developed by the Berlin sculptor Hannah Hallermann for the rooms and exhibition practice of the Kunstverein on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.

The core of the exhibition is constituted by two groups of works. One bearing a resemblance to  sports equipment: abstract cubes that look like starting blocks in the pool, and tall, yellow-painted metal posts that resemble hurdles. In addition to steel, the artist used concrete – combined with oil, clay and straw. Prototypical here is an immediate symbolic language (sport) next to a metaphorical level, which addresses larger topics (different starting opportunities in life, need for departure …) via the material. The other group consists of a single oversized, tent-like construction. Fixed with mighty steel plates, a dark, clay-soaked cloth wraps around a bright yellow branch. The static of the installation seems precarious. It is unclear whether the branch supports the fabric or these fix the branch. The knot construction is also ambivalent: Does it hold the elements of the sculpture together or does it rather serve the construction of a picturesque drapery? A delicate, easily overlooked text work with the words OPTIMISE – ENOUGH weaves a fine thread between the works shown, keeping the balance between a very personal expression and the big topic that possibly concerns many.

*Hannah Hallermann lives and works in Berlin. At present, further works of her can be seen in Zitadelle Spandau and Haus am Kleistpark.
