until 02.07. | #0526ARTatBerlin | Jordan/Seydoux is very pleased to present since the 29th April 2016 for the fourth time works of the renowned artist with the solo show ‘Bonjour Monsieur Baselitz !’.

The exhibition consists of selected prints, which give an insight into Baselitz’ work and mastery in this medium.

The centre piece is the series published in 2014, ‘Bitte kommen Sie nach vorn!’ (Please step forward!), which is shown here exclusively for the first time in Germany. The theme of this series is the self-portrait that since the 60s has recurred in Baselitz’ paintings, sculptures and prints. Besides this, ‘Remix’ and ‘Adler’ (Eagle) works are presented, which play an equally significant role in the work of the artist.

Since 2005 Baselitz has been using his own works and motifs, with which he gained world-wide recognition, for his ‘Remix’ works. Decades after they first appeared, he is testing them out again and recreating them in his current art style. The ‘Remix’ works are a dialogue of the artist with himself but also with another time period. “I go and turn around myself.” Thus the works ‘Big Night I (Remix)’ and ‘Big Night IV (Remix)’, 2008-2010, are based on the famous picture ‘Die große Nacht im Eimer’ (The Big Night Down the Drain) from 1962, which caused an enormous scandal at the time.

The works ‘Seeadler’ (Sea Eagle) from 2000 and ‘Adler im Tor’ (Eagle in the gate) from 2001 represent the typical style which made him famous. The eagle, Baselitz’ personal mascot since the 70s and present as a motif throughout his work, is shown falling head over heels. The work ‘Gute Hoffnung’ (Good Hope) from 2011 contains in addition to the eagle another characteristic trait of his work: the black beam from which the colour runs down over the picture. The final piece in the exhibition is a pencil drawing from 1983.

Georg Baselitz, born in 1938 in Deutschbaselitz in Saxony as Georg Kern and now living in Bavaria, is among the most important contemporary German artists. In 1957 he moved to West Berlin and in 1961 he adopted the name of his home town. His works are embedded in the contradictory context of German history, the critical reception of German Expressionism and the American abstract art (Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning).

Baselitz has been awarded several international prizes, among others the Goslarer Kaiserring and the LowerSaxony State Prize and honorary professorships at the Royal Academy of Art in London and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. His work has been presented in many exhibitions and is present in numerous museums and public collections in Germany and abroad such as the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Albertina in Vienna, the Kunsthaus in Zurich and the Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris. New works can be seen from the 27th April in the White Cube Gallery in London. From the 1st June onwards a large show with 230 prints from the last 20 years will take place at Schloss Dachau near Munich. The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue. Another large show, dedicated to Baselitz’ ‘Helden’ (Heroes) figures, starts at the end of June at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt.

Vernissage: Friday, 29th April 2016, 6 p.m.
