Die zu sein scheint, die bin ich + 3DEP3 | Galerie Thomas Schulte | 17.09-05.11.2016

until 05.11. | #0677ARTatBerlin | The Galerie Thomas Schulte shows from the 17th September 2016 the exhibition “Die zu sein scheint, die bin ich” by the artists Birgit Jürgenssen, Cindy Sherman, Katharina Sieverding and Francesca Woodman.

In parallel with the exhibition Fabian Marcaccio will transform the corner space of the gallery with his large-scale installation 3DEP3.

Galerie Thomas Schulte with the exhibition Die zu sein scheint, die bin ich presents photographs from the 1970s by Birgit Jürgenssen, Cindy Sherman, Katharina Sieverding, and Francesca Woodman. Each artist in their own way and with their particular visual aesthetic expresses with the camera ideas of self-presentation, masquerade, and femininity. Alongside a series of iconic works by Cindy Sherman, for the first time a large collection of polaroids by Birgit Jürgenssen from her estate in Vienna will be on show. These surreal, poetic, and unique works will be combined with lyrical black-and-white photographs by Francesca Woodman. Katharina Sieverding’s installation Projektion I-III 196, 1973, however, marks the starting point on the exhibition’s timeline. The immediacy of the work emphasizes the artist’s pioneering role within the topic of artistic female self-investigation.

Vernissage: Friday, 16th September 2016, 06:00 – 09:00 Uhr

Exhibition period: Saturday, 17th September – Saturday, 5th November 2016
