until 23.11. | #4461ARTatBerlin | CAMERA WORK presents from 12. October 2024 the exhibition from the artist David Yarrow.

The majority of these works were created in 2024 and will be on display worldwide for the first time. Iconic animal portraits by the artist and a further development of his works influenced by classic Hollywood films are particularly represented in the exhibition.

ComposiZons that are reminiscent of film shots are decisive for David Yarrow’s work. This is particularly evident in the way he uses light and shadows to create tension. These techniques are reminiscent of the visual language of classic Hollywood films and reinforce the dramatic effect of his photographs. His animal portraits look og like stills from an epic adventure film in which nature plays the leading role.

In addition, Yarrow’s work reveals the influence of film directors such as Sergio Leone and Anthony Minghella. The monumentality and vastness of his scenery, as well as the use of perspecZve and proximity, create a narrative depth that gives the viewer the feeling of being part of a larger story. Through these cineasZc influences, Yarrow succeeds in detaching his photographs from the purely documentary framework and elevating them to iconic works of art with emotional expression.

David Yarrow was born in Glasgow in 1966. His passion for photography began early.
As a 20-year-old, he took the legendary portrait of the jubilant cup winner Diego Maradona for The London Times at the World Cup final in Mexico City. Yarrow only turned to artistic photography much later and focussed on nature and its wildlife. This decision had a lasting impact on his career, and Yarrow’s passion for storytelling gradually took on a greater role in the creation of his works. The photo artist’s works are represented in internationally renowned museums and public and private collections. His photographs are available in exclusive editions and are highly valued on the primary and secondary art market.

Philanthropy is an important part of David Yarrow’s work. Since 2018, the artist has raised more than $15 million for charities and conservation organisations – including, in collaboration with Cindy Crawford, $3 million for the UW Health Kids Cancer Care Charity and $1.4 million for the #KoalaComeback campaign to support rebuilding efforts following the 2019/2020 Australian wildfires. Following the COVID-19 outbreak, he helped raise over 1.4 million US dollars for the NHS Nauonal Health Service (NHS). David Yarrow is also an ambassador for various charitable organisaZons, including: The African Community and ConservaZon FoundaZon, Tusk, WildArk, The Kevin Richardson FoundaZon and Best Buddies.

Exhibition dates: Saturday, 12 October to Saturday, 23 November 2024
