until 19.10 | #2581ARTatBerlin | Galerie Sievi currently shows the exhibition Shells by the artist Berit-Kristina Weiss.

The paintings by Berit-Kristina Weiss are workpieces, not “please don’t touch” paintings.

A statement – if present – should remain in the background and should not be transported, decoded or read. Only the subjective engagement of the viewer with the picture counts, a freedom that, surprisingly, still often unsettles. The pictures actually want to cause unrest as a piece of “artificial nature”, as something organic in a tidy ambience. The pictures can be described as “grown”, since the painter in an often long creative process of the canvas literally abruptly what is finally to be seen: works with power and depth.

Since 2018, the repertoire has been extended to include sculptural works that see themselves as a further development of the way we work and as a result of our fascination with the material.

Berit-Kristina Weiss was born in Berlin and completed her studies at the UdK and TU Berlin. She has lived and worked in Munich and Berlin for about 15 years.
