until 18.06. | #3043ARTatBerlin | Crone Berlin presents from 28th April 2021 on the occasion of the Gallery Weekend, the exhibition Currencies of De*Capital Delirium by the artist Ashley Hans Scheirl, who, together with his/her partner Jakob Lena Knebl, will occupy the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2022.

The show is on view in our main gallery in Berlin-Charlottenburg: Paintings, sculptures, and drawings merge to form a room-filling installation. They lead the visitor into an exuberant, seemingly insane dream world. Consumption and the search for meaning, greed and renunciation, excess and isolation, rebellion and resignation are digested in abundant pictorial compositions. Identity and transformation, gender and hierarchy, individual lifestyles and the global economy of rejection collide here and culminate in a digital-anarchist-neutralized big bang, or at least in a new value: Currencies of De*Capital Delirium.

Scheirl has been addressing the issues of transgender and diversity since the early 1980s. With his/her experimental underground films, he/she shaped a new self-understanding of sexual identity in the London subculture at that time and changed gender himself/herself several times. In the early 2000s, Scheirl turned to painting and drawing, but remained true to the themes of transformation, hierarchy, and power in relation to body, sexuality, and gender. He/she later expanded his/her painting practice into the performative and installation realms.

In 2017 Scheirl participated in Documenta 14. Since 2006 he/she teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna as a Professor of contextual painting.
