In the warm embrace of the light that warms even the coldest months, the exhibition Apricity opens its doors for an experience that awakens the senses and uplifts the spirit. Apricity, an almost forgotten word that describes the warmth of the winter sun, serves as the leitmotif for an extraordinary gathering of three outstanding artists: Anke Eilergerhard, Hiroko Nakajima and Giulia Tombolato. Through their unique perspectives and media, they explore the indescribable moments of life, the fleeting emotions and the deep connection between form and meaning.
Anke Eilergerhard, known for her sculptural works that play at the intersection of tradition and contemporary provocation, presents a series of sculptures that are seductive in their apparent sweetness and delicacy. Often inspired by confectionery and painted in bright colours, her works question the role of femininity, transience and consumption. Eilergerhard’s sculptures, moulded in silicone and carefully layered, are reminiscent of cakes and offer a visual and conceptual density that is thought-provoking.
Hiroko Nakajima, a master of abstract calligraphy, weaves words and shapes into a visual poem that transcends the boundaries of language. Japanese calligraphy, which originated in China, is much more than just the art of writing. Unlike Western calligraphy, Japanese calligraphy is a path of inspiration, a key to understanding the world that has always been closely linked to the visual arts. What may appear to the untrained eye to be a collection of colour stains contains a rich symbolism of hidden messages and insights for the expert. Hiroko Nakajima’s art is much more than a coordinated movement of hand and body, it is a philosophy of aesthetics. Hiroko Nakajima is not a calligrapher or a calligraphic artist, she is a painter of abstract images.
Giulia Tombolato, the youngest of the exhibitors, brings a fresh approach to abstract art. Her work, characterised by vibrant colours and dynamic compositions, explores the boundaries of form and space. Tombolato’s paintings are a vibrant interplay of light and shadow, inviting the viewer to enter a world where emotions and impressions flow freely. Combining traditional techniques with a modern understanding of colour and movement, she creates a bridge between past and present, between the familiar and the unknown.
More than an exhibition, Apricity is an invitation to consider the complexity and beauty of the human experience through the lens of art. In a fusion of abstract calligraphy, sculpture and emerging abstract art, Eilergerhard, Nakajima and Tombolato open a dialogue on the complexity of emotion, the depth of interpretation and the infinite possibilities of artistic expression. Each work, unique in its execution and meaning, speaks of apricity – the warming power of art to provide comfort and inspiration even in the coldest moments.
