until 10.02. | #4148ARTatBerlin | Luisa Catucci Gallery together with the Kerber Verlag show from 26th January 2024 (Vernissage: 25.01.) the exhibition BROKEN MEMORIES by the artist Andréas Lang at the Luisa Catucci Gallery.

In Broken Memories, Andréas Lang explores the theme of memory and history in Turkey. In photographs and videos, he reflects on the disappearance, the discontinuity and the many layers of historical inscriptions and overwritings that leave visible evidence of a collective memory that has been made invisible. He focusses on the current treatment of history, but above all on places associated with the late Ottoman Empire, the Armenian legacy and the genocide of 1915. Lang describes his work as visual archaeology, which makes the different layers of history, mythology and the present visible.

She is a member of Parrhesia Collective, an Armenian women’s group that has opened an intellectual and creative platform through social media posts, webinars and written works. Her PhD research focuses on exploring the transgenerational trauma of Armenian women through photography and storytelling in Istanbul.

Nilüfer Ovalıoğlu Gros is a contemporary theatre maker and performance studies researcher from Istanbul, based in Paris. She has pursued her artistic and academic career in the United States, England, Turkey and France. Her artistic work focuses on gendered resistance and memory. She explores timbres, myths and testimonies that challenge the state-nations narratives of the Middle East. She has published articles in the Journal of Embodied Research and the Performance Research Journal. She is currently a PhD candidate at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts (CNSAD-PSL) in Paris.
