„… it sounds paradoxical, but I would like it
if one were to forget the exterior of my sculptures,
disregard it in order to reach the core
that cannot be seen.“
– Abraham David Christian

Exploring the relationship between fragility and stability is one of Abraham David Christian’s (*1952 in Ulm) main artistic concerns. From drawings to plaster and paper sculptures to massive bronze and iron sculptures, he has created works that are defined by equilibrium and balance. The sculptures cannot be interpreted; instead they must be experienced and sensed, reflecting a spirit that unites something deeply human everywhere around the world. Christian has been a traveler since his youth, has absorbed the landscapes and cultures in India, the Middle East, Japan, Europe and North America, and for years he has incorporated these decades of impressions and influences in his art in his studios in Düsseldorf, New York and Hayama in Japan.

Christian exhibited as the youngest participant at the documenta 5 (1972) and at the documenta 7 (1982). His first solo exhibition was in 1973 at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf followed by further exhibitions at the Museum Haus Lange in Krefeld, the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf and the Sprengelmuseum Hannover. Since 1987 he has exhibited regularly in the USA and Japan. Abraham David Christian was a lecturer and professor in Japan, China, the USA and Europe. Galerie Michael Haas presents recent small and large sculptures in bronze and iron, including his well known Interconnected Sculptures.
