Petrus Christus, born around 1410/1420 in Baarle, located on the border between Netherlands and Belgium and died in 1473 in Brügge, was the first Flemish painter who intensively occupied himself with portrait paintings. He was a student of Jan van Eyck.

The “portrait of a young lady” or “portrait of a young girl” was created in 1470. It perhaps shows Lady Talbot and measures 22.5 x 29 cm (width x height).
Brief description
One sees a classical renaissance portrait of a young woman with even facial features and at the time popular high-forehead, dressed fancy in a blue, neckless dress with fur trimming. She’s wearing an extravagant pearl necklace and headwear with embroidery on the edge of her head and a ribbon tied around her chin. A tiny needle holds an almost invisible, subtle ribbon around her shoulders. Her almond-shaped, brown eyes rest on the observer of the picture. The wall behind her is plastered with brown and in the bottom half it’s plastered with wood. Nothing can distract from the unapproachable beauty of the lady pictured.
