until 07.04. | #1869ARTatBerlin | Galerie Z22 presents from 24th February 2018 the exhibtion”MODEFICATION” with the part “La Mode et la Mort” by the artist Eric Massholder and the part “La Robe” by Léa Massholder.
Eric Massholder is attracted spontaneously by image themes, which he manifests artistically with all means at his disposal.
The starting point for “Mode – fication”, a play on words from his playing and experimental style, are fashion posters that seem devious to the artists living in the south of France in their expression, in their “Mise en scène”. So he puts in the line of sight of the models skulls, which are painted on real eggs; He is then to give meaning to the expression of the models, which is empty of his feelings.
The mating fashion and death is a popular maneuver in the fashion world with the emblem of the skull, symbolizing the transience of life.
Giacomo Leopardi, the great Italian poet, wrote a dialogue between fashion and death in 1824. In it, death does not recognize his sister, fashion, when she confesses to him. In this case, she argues, they are both “born of decay” and therefore have the same mother. But it is also in the nature of both to constantly renew the world.
Massholder puts the skull under the beauty in its vain bustle, not necessarily admonishing, but still wishing for meaning.
