SATELLITEN / Satellite to Satellite
Loris is pleased to announce the group exhibition Satellite to Satellite and warmly invite you to attend this final Loris exhibition, which showcases the crossing of five artistic paths. Alongside the solo practices of each of these five artists, are their curatorial, managerial and artistic activities across Loris as a gallery for the many years of their involvement. Satellite to Satellite is informed by the notion of ‘tracking’ as a precision-based measurement method of the path disturbances between two satellites. This is currently one of the most common applications of scientific, commercial and military information transfer and generation: further cause for the artists to explore the relational dynamics in and between all their works, including investigations involving the centre and periphery, proximity and distance, reality and virtuality.

Gaze shifts and dissociation are some of the mechanisms employed by these five idiosyncratic satellites, which intersect as a constellation via their imaginary trajectories. Free from each other and circling both the viewer and every other satellite, what develops is both magnetic and disturbing. Images of objects and environments become motifs and codes for emotional states. As active fragments, they simultaneously provoke collisions with other systems, by playing with sight lines, distance and space – and in doing so they meld reality and virtuality. Rather than circling around themselves, they switch centre/periphery relations and thus place the viewer directly at the centre of the action: Satellite to Satellite.
