until 04.06. | #3442ARTatBerlin | EIGENHEIM Berlin shows from 30. April 2022 (Opening: 29.04.) the exhibition Bitter  Springtime as a statement group show of the gallery’s artists.

Many upheavals and upheavals are shaping our time, key questions and special features of the present are in the process of unfolding. Depending on one’s point of view, some of these processes of consciousness-raising can even be optimistic – be it the insight into man-made climate change or the first black woman judge on the US Supreme Court. We also seemed to have mastered the pandemic at the moment. We have strengthened our capacity for resilience and realised that solidarity makes us, at least a large part of society. After another winter full of restrictions, we looked forward optimistically and longingly to the beginning of spring – and yet things turned out differently again.

A war in Europe is shaking us, inflation is rising, defence budgets are being increased – shocking news from the war zone reaches us daily. In addition, there are other conflicts: the rainforest is burning more than ever under Bolsonaro, there are armed conflicts on 5 out of 7 continents, living conditions in the most disadvantaged regions of the world have deteriorated further. The future remains uncertain and fear is rampant. All the invigorating and restorative qualities of spring are abruptly diminished. We can’t find peace, we can’t focus on what’s important, no matter how great the challenges. It seems hopeless.

So what is left for us? – let us hold on to the happiness of hope, prove to ourselves once again that by educating and striving, by rising from the dark chambers, we bring into focus the view of being human. Let us approach each other, listen to each other, appeal to reason, bow to understanding, see opportunity in contrariness.

The exhibition “Bitter Spring” confronts the ambivalence of life, juxtaposes the eerily disturbing with the luminous and colourful, shows war next to peace, death next to life, departure next to resignation. The range of works by the artists at Galerie Eigenheim allows for this, making the exhibition a rollercoaster of emotions and thus a reflection of the world.
