Oskar Manigk was born in Berlin in 1934 as the son of the painter Otto Manigk (1902-1972). After graduating from high school and completing an apprenticeship as a carpenter, he was a guest student at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art from 1956 to 1957, then a guest student at the Institute for Art Education at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald. Since 1965 he has been a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR and has been a member of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Artists’ Association since 1990. His works have been on view in solo and group exhibitions in Germany since 1966. In 1993 he received the Caspar David Friedrich Prize from the Heinemann Foundation Rendsburg, and in 2005 he received the Culture Prize of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for his life’s work. In March 2024, Oskar Manigk was awarded the Egmont Schaefer Prize for Drawing by the Berliner Kabinett association.

Manigk’s works are in German public and private collections. The Mutare Gallery has represented him since 2014.
