until 25.07. | #5089ARTatBerlin | Laura Mars Gallery shows from 20. June 2026 (Opening: 19.06) the exhibition “Difficult Times” by the artist Martin Eberle.
Martin Eberle is known for his photo series on the club scene in the 1990s as well as subcultural structures in Berlin. In his new series Difficult Times (2022–2026), he follows the rapid and increasingly visible social and spatial transformation of the city and portrays people from Berlin’s cultural landscape. His work documents a continuous transformation and progressive change of niches and open spaces within Berlin.
Through his photography, Eberle brings visibility to indoor and outdoor spaces, which often exist in a moment of transition. He is also interested in places that develop their own dynamics in public space through spontaneous and unregulated forms of use. According to Martin Eberle, Berlin’s urban space can be understood as a communication system consisting „of many surprising, unexpected, interconnected and disconnected messages. The photographs of these appropriations reveal the metropolis as personal, dirty, vulnerable, emotional – a city of countless niches and lost corners, of sheer madness in all its forms“.
