until 22.06. | #4297ARTatBerlin | Galerie Inga Kondeyne currently shows the exhibition VORFREUNDE for Hanns Schimansky’s 75th birthday with works by Hanns Schimansky and his friends and acquaintances Eve Aschheim, Curt Asker, Joachim Böttcher, Paco Knöller and Manfred Zoller.
‘My actions come from what is visible’
The illustrator Hanns Schimansky, who grew up on the Baltic Sea and was not uninfluenced by the hustle and bustle of the sea, states again and again, especially with a view to the extensive non-representational (life) work, insofar as early, deposited visual experiences sometimes flash or shine through unexpectedly as shadows or atomized in particle-like form. And yes, after extensive ‘transformation nautical miles’, his graphic ‘catching nets’ are equipped with unusually rich and at the same time unmistakable landings: comb-like swaying pencil lines, feather-light and feather-light, orthogonal ink textures, gently shimmering oil pastels, blackish shadow formations, (color) Folds with a physically cuddly appearance, idiosyncratic ‘black runners’, recently also mixed with color panels… there is no end to the line-up of pieces that lure you into the waters of the imagination – and all of this on papers of the finest to the most strange quality. It’s hard to believe: each of these sheets (regardless of format) is a day’s work – ventilated and enlivened by the hand of graphic experience; Enveloped by free jazz sound clouds in the studio, the ‘breaking up of form’ takes place daily in the duality as an (initial) breaking out into form and subsequent, ever-renewing breaking up of this form(s); What is required in all of this is sensitivity, willingness and attentiveness, in short: sensitivity and receptivity to what comes along and what happens…
Exhibition period: Friday, 10. May until Saturday, 22. June 2024
