until 20.10. | #1493ARTatBerlin | Galerie Anna25 presents from 8th September 2017 the exhibition “Aus der Taum” by he artist Fabio Moro.
Loud, shrill and extreme – that’s how the 80s appear in the media. Fabio Moro dedicates himself to the decade of his youth and goes on an artistic search. Through the world of cinema, series, music, books and magazines, it leads him across the world. “Metaphisique retro” that’s how Fabio Moro calls his artistic flashbacks back from the eighties.
Born in the Italian province of Salerno in 1972, he returns to his youth, where he was influenced by the media of the time: advertising with the recurring jingles, superstars on stage and on screen and supermodels with hairspray hairstyles on the advertising posters.
It is a time of consumption. Models, musicians, actors and sportsmen become superstars, idols of a whole generation.
The 80s are the time of the unknown consumption, but on the other hand the time of great social frustration. This can be seen in the subculture, where punk and hardcore followers rebel against the mainstream of consumption.
The art of the 1980s is characterized by different currents, which are understood as a counter-movement to the intellectually minimalistic art or conceptual art and the established art world. They are names like the “New Wilde”, comic-style art styles or naive streams that dominate this counter-movement.
Fabio Moro is also attached to the naive art. In his single exhibition “Ausbildungsname”, the artist dedicates himself to the idols of his childhood, the bright figures of the 80s, and lead their existence into a different dimension. What about today’s Duracell bunnies, Freddy Krueger, Barbie and Ken? Today, where there are 80s parties in every club and in fashion the extreme styles of the 80s are always “en vogue”, the journey into the past is particularly interesting.
His protagonists revive Moro with oilcolors on canvas. It is a slow painting process that leaves enough time for memories. With bright colors, childish motifs and an unmistakable irony, he brings the stars and starlets of the wild eighties to the here and now. “What has become of the idols,” is the question which everything revolves around. Fabio Moro’s pictures show that they are not there anymore than they once were.
