EST is a highly versatile artist. Thanks to her love of experimentation, curiosity and imagination, she has succeeded in developing a playful approach to various styles of the 20th century. After completing her studies, she initially devoted herself to expressionist, mostly abstract colour field painting under the influence of the classical avant-garde – Ernst Barlach, Max Beckmann, Kandinsky, Klee, Matisse, Joan Miró, Henry Moore, Picasso. From the 1970s onwards, she moved on to expressive figurative art, before arriving at a cryptic, associative formal language. She was inspired by Informel, Nouveaux Réalisme, A. R. Penck, Niki de Saint Phalle and Cy Tombly. She also drew inspiration from theatre, literature and music. From 1972 onwards, she created colourfully painted sculptures, assemblages and installations, working with unusual materials such as fabric, polystyrene, silicone, cardboard and plywood. Even during the GDR era, she received commissions for art in public spaces. From 1979 onwards, she became more intensively involved with collage and printmaking. Her work also includes thematic series, including music and literature.
