until 20.01. | #3719ARTatBerlin | Luisa Catucci Gallery presents from 1st December 2022 the exhibition “Couleurs Du Sud” with the artist duo Bounoure and Genevaux.
The artist duo Bounoure and Genevaux are a working and living couple based in the South of France who have developed an original body of work based on folding and cutting in paint. From a childlike gesture such as folding small pieces of paper, they create large compositions of coloured metal or mirrors called “folded canvas”. The artists realise their large-scale works themselves, folded with four hands, working in absolute synergetic harmony. Following Matisse’s example, they draw their colours and inspiration directly from the Mediterranean landscapes.

Based on the carefully selected colour palettes, the shapes of the works look like delicate surfaces, with the shadow of the folding revealing the volumes composed in the light. In their first solo exhibition in Germany, Bounoure and Genevaux show colourful, huge wall sculptures under the title “COULEURS DU SUD”. Small and medium-sized mirrored works will be on display in the back rooms.

With no top or bottom, no sense of right or left, and accompanied by a room scent reminiscent of the fragrances of the south of France, Bounoure and Genevaux’s gigantic artworks serve as a portal to an all-encompassing experience, offering the viewer a mini sensory voyage of discovery to the beautiful south of France.
Behind each work are the design motifs discovered by the artist duo, guided by intuition. The works look like delicate surfaces, the shadow of the folds is the revelation of the volumes composed in the light. This new form of “pop minimalism” has enjoyed great popularity since their first exhibitions.

Bounoureand Genevaux’s design and gestural expressiveness are guided by their cultural background as architects with a sense of landscape identity. Their large-scale artworks, intended for both indoor and outdoor use, are made from durable and long-lasting materials. The modern and caring couple work together in their studio for modern architecture overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

In 2022, they received the patronage of Buesa with the support of Mécènes du Sud and the French Ministry of Culture.
