until 21.01. | #0318ARTatBerlin | galerie gerken shows an exhibtion with the artists Anja Fußbach and Wolf Hamm from 11th December 2015 to 21st of January 2016.
The absurdity of human behavior in everyday life is hardly to surpass whereby the self-created contrast to perfect products of our guiding culture gives an idea of this living ambivalence: Anja Fußbach offers in her artistic work an uncompromising and blunt expression of the dilemma between society’s codes and values in relation to our reality. Fragmented, dissected, perverted, coloured and newly combined her material collages result in a deconstructed reflection of overvalued symbols, which are able to laugh about themselves.
Narration and mysticism are equal keywords of the artistic work of Wolf Hamm. The analysis of the family as a social fabric acts as a thematic starting point and his main source of inspiration. Hamm transforms these immanent and interactive relations into complex structures of concrete and abstract motifs. This formal dynamic reflects the multi-dimensionality of the individual in connection to the society: Secretive and tender appears the family unity, which is at the same moment confronted with primal fears of separation and transience. The compositional challenge of Hamm’s paintings, drawings and cuts allegorize the fragile balance of these constructs and opens up a pictorial and intellectual room, in which individual thoughts are equal to a superior cognition.
