From 27th to 30th September 2018, POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair will be presenting 74 selected international galleries with their most striking artistic positions in contemporary and modern art as part of the Berlin Art Week.

Since the founding of the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair in 2014, the organizers have been pursuing a concept that combines a formally classic exhibition structure with the aspiration to expand the range of displayed art in Berlin. Since then, not only contemporary art has been presented at the position fairs, but also those of classical modernity or earlier eras. Established artistic positions can be seen alongside works by young artists, cross-connections can be made visible and visitors to Berlin Art Week are invited to discover and rediscover. The focus is primarily on the quality, relevance and timeliness of the presented art and with it the important and good work of the presenting galleries as observers, mediators and promoters.

For its fifth edition, POSITIONS Berlin has long drawn a symbol of freedom and a stage for cosmopolitanism and internationalism in Hangar 4 of Berlin Tempelhof Airport, the largest monument in Europe, the location of the Berlin Airlift and more than 50 years of civil aviation Exchange is. In September, it will be turned into a hotspot for art and with its monumental architecture and eventful history will provide an auratic environment for artistic presentations.

Works by around 300 artists from 32 countries will be presented by galleries and others at the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair in 2018. from Italy, Switzerland, the USA, Canada, China and Germany. The (AV17) Gallery and Meno Nisa Gallery from Vilnius as well as Meno Parkas from Kaunas and Maksla XO from Riga arrive from the Baltic States. New this year as an exhibitor is the Berlin gallery Exgirlfriend with sculptures by the young Spanish artist With Borrás and installations by the Omsk Social Club, whose work will also be shown in the Gropius Bau and the Badischer Kunstverein in 2018. The gallery Susanne Albrecht shows paintings by the artist Michaela Ghisetti living in Vienna and Antonella Cattani Contemporary Art from Bolzano brings the latest works of the artist Julia Bornefeld to the fair.

Young artists like Antje Zeiher and Viktoria Strecker are introduced by Judith Andreae from Bonn. In the berth of the Galerie Rasche Ripken from Berlin, which also participates for the first time at the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair, ia. With “Academy POSITIONS by Berlin Hyp” the fair presents selected works of the graduates of German art academies.

Review: POSITIONS 2017 at ARENA Berlin

While the presentation of the Peter C.-Schlüschen-Prize – with 10.000 Euros prize money of one of the most highly endowed prizes for sports photography in Germany – will be accompanied by an exhibition of the finalists at the fair, the Berlin Hyp in Budapester Straße (Tiergarten) the solo exhibition of the Berlin artist Marion Eichmann, who won the Berlin Hyp Prize 2017 together with Carolin Gasse from Weimar.

The outdoor area of Hangar 4 will be a special backdrop for the Open Air POSITIONS, a curated sculpture park, during the fair. The selected large-scale sculptures and installations by Sonja Edle von Hoeßle, Frederik Foert, Georg M. Korner and Siegfried Kreitner have a special local relevance and specifically integrate the airport with its unique significance for Berlin.

As part of the Friday Night POSITIONS, the Berlin galleries participating in the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair will also open their exhibitions on Friday evening until 9 pm.
