until 09.07. | #0537ARTatBerlin | CAMERA WORK presents from 14th May 2016 the exhibition “Inherit the Dust” by the artist Nick Brandt.

The exhibition will show new works by the prestigious artist that have never been on display before.

»The images in ‘Inherit the Dust’ are heart wrenching and important. This tough new series is a call to action – if it is not too late – and pulls no punches in confronting us with the devastation of their habitat.«

– Philippe Garner (Co-Chairman Christie’s)

Since 2001, artist Nick Brandt has been documenting the vanishing natural world and animals of East Africa through his haunting, majestic portraits. Three years after the somber conclusion of his African trilogy, »On This Earth, A Shadow Falls, Across the Ravaged Land«, Nick Brandt returned to East Africa to photograph the escalating devastation to the continent’s natural world. In this new series of epic panoramas, Nick Brandt records the impact of man in places where animals used to roam, but no longer do. In each location, Nick Brandt erects a life size panel of one of his animal portrait photographs, setting the panels within a world of explosive urban development, factories, wasteland and quarries. The people in the photographs go about their daily lives, oblivious to the presence of the panels and the animals within them, who are effectively now no more than ghosts in the landscape.

The photo book »Inherit the Dust« will be distributed in April by Thames & Hudson.

»In ‘Inherit The Dust’ Nick Brandt’s astonishing panoramas are a jolting combination of beauty, decay, and admonishment – an eloquent and complex ‘J’accuse.’ A collision between Bruegel and an apocalypse in waiting.«

– Vicki Goldberg (art critic, author)

Nick Brandt has photographed exclusively in Africa since 2001. Brandt’s work has been widely exhibited at major museums and galleries in the United States and internationally. Born and raised in England, he lives in the mountains of Southern California.

Vernissage: Friday, 13th May 2016
