Dmitri (Vladimirovich) Vrubel (or Wrubel), born in Moscow on 14.07.1960, died as a result of corona disease on 14.08.2022 in Berlin. Vrubel lived in Berlin, he was a contemporary painter and a member of the Piratenpartei (Pirate Party).

“My God, give me the strength to survive this kiss of death” is a life size street-art painting on the Berlin Wall between Ostbahnhof and Oberbaumbrücke, the so called East Side Gallery. Vrubel created the original piece in 1991. A new version arose in 2009 when the wall was renovated. It measures 7.20 x 3.60 m (width x height).

It shows the former head of state of the Soviet Union and GDR Iljitsch Breschnew and Erich Honecker united by a heartfelt brotherly kiss. One can read in the line under the artwork in Russian and German: My God, , give me the strength to survive this kiss of death. When the famous obtained piece of the Berlin Wall was renovated in 2009, Vrubel went back and painted it again. It belongs to the most popular motifs for photographers in Berlin.

Kunsthaus Dahlem

Kunsthaus Dahlem is an exhibition venue for postwar German modernism (East and West). It is administered and operated by Atelierhaus Dahlem, a non-profit subsidiary of the Bernhard Heiliger Foundation founded in 2013. Located at the edge of the Grunewald, the building was open as an exhibition venue in summer 2015 after a renovation and dismantling in accordance with historic preservation standards. There will also be a permanent exhibition on the building’s eventful history, free-of-charge to visitors. One essential area of concentration of the exhibition venue is the presentation of sculpture, supplemented by painting, prints and drawings, and photography.
