Last chance to see! The exhibition Picasso. Suite 156 with Kubra Khademi at the Museum Ludwig ends on 4 February 2024. 8 April 2023 marked the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso’s death. Under the title The Picasso Celebration 1973-2023, a large number of exhibitions in Europe and the USA took this anniversary as an opportunity to bring his work closer to today’s public. The Museum Ludwig collection is home to the third largest Picasso collection in the world and took part in the anniversary year with the graphics collection presentation Suite 156, a late work by the artist: 155 etchings from 1968 to 1972.

The period in which the cycle was created ran parallel to the worldwide socio-cultural civil rights movements that culminated in Picasso’s adopted country of France in 1968 in the so-called Paris May Day. In his last cycle of prints, Picasso explores personal memories, love, life and mortality, Western art and cultural history and the relationships between artists, models and viewers.
