until 21.11. | #0161ARTatBerlin | 68projects is proud to present the group exhibtion MONA from 12th September to 21st November 2015.
At 77 x 53 cm (30 x 21 inches), painted in oil on wood, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is a famous and truly provocative work of art. Identified as Florentine-citizen Lisa del Giocondo by researchers at the University of Heidelberg, Mona remains a mystery and celebrity, smirking at the parade of bigger-is-better art forms, surviving nearly 500 years of murderous attempts and theft, including trends and fickle discourse in art, not to mention “the death of painting.”
In our most ambitious effort to-date, 68projects commissioned new work by international contemporary artists, by providing each participating artist with a similar wood panel used by da Vinci and cut to the exact dimensions of the painting. With no requirement to reference da Vinci or portraiture or even to keep the wood in one piece, each artist was simply asked to make a work in his/her own style and manner, one that would give beloved Mona a partner-in-crime … a partner-in-time.
Participating Artists: Tom Anholt, Wolfgang Beltracchi, Matt Chambers, Tomory Dodge, Iris Yirei Hu, Leiko Ikemura,
Elmira Iravanizad, Michael John Kelly, Genti Korini, Evan Nesbit, Jon Pestoni, Les Rogers, Ena Swansea and Gloria von Thurn und Taxis.
Vernissage: Saturday, 12th September 2015, 6 – 9 pm
Exhibition period: Saturday, 12th September – Saturday, 21st November 2015Zu 68projects
