With an exhibition of Jorge Pardo, Tim Neuger and Burkhard Riemschneider opened their gallery at Goethestraße 69 in Berlin-Charlottenburg in May 1994. In the following years neugerriemschneider showed the first solo exhibitions of the then still unknown artists Franz Ackermann, Sharon Lockhart, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Michel Majerus, Tobias Rehberger, Elizabeth Peyton and Olafur Eliasson. They became an integral part of the gallery’s program and today are among the most influential artists of their generation.
In September 1998 the gallery moved into its new premises at Linienstraße 155 in Berlin-Mitte, which were opened with an exhibition of Olafur Eliasson’s work. Over the years, the gallery program has been expanded to include further groundbreaking artistic positions, with Pae White and Simon Starling joining the gallery in 2001, followed in 2003 by the first solo exhibitions with Isa Genzken and Pawel Althamer. Since 2011, neugerriemschneider has also been representing the American filmmaker and artist James Benning and showed Ai Weiwei’s first solo exhibition at the gallery. Mike Nelson’s exhibition project, presented in a temporary exhibition space at abc 2012, was the first solo exhibition with the artist, whom the gallery has represented since then. Since 2012 there has also been a close collaboration with the Noa Eshkol Foundation for Movement Notation in Holon, Israel. Eshkol’s first solo exhibition in Germany was shown by neugerriemschneider in spring 2013. At Gallery Weekend 2015 the gallery presented its first exhibition with the Brazilian artist Renata Lucas and in September 2015 it presented works by Mario García Torres for the first time in a solo exhibition at the gallery. The first solo exhibition of Swedish artist Andreas Eriksson at the gallery showed neugerriemschneider in autumn 2017.
