In October 1967 Dorothee and Konrad Fischer opened in a small room in Düsseldorf’s Neubrückstraße. In this first exhibition they presented Carl Andre. At that time, Minimal Art and Conceptual Art was almost unknown in Europe. Subsequently, artists such as Richard Long, Bruce Nauman, Sol LeWitt, On Kawara, Lawrence Weiner, Hanne Darboven and Robert Ryman had their first European appearances in the “Exhibitions at Konrad Fischer’s”. Their works are still shown in the gallery today.
In autumn 2007 the Konrad Fischer Gallery opened – also with an exhibition of Carl Andre – an additional gallery space in Berlin. In addition to younger international artists, the program from 50 years of gallery history is also presented here. Since summer 2015, the daughter Berta Fischer has been running the gallery.
