until 12.11. | #3645ARTatBerlin | Galerie SCHMALFUSS BERLIN shows from 10. October 2022 (Opening: 08.10.) the exhibition „Transformation and Transcendence“ with works by the artist Jürgen Durner.

“You have to look around for a long time on the national and international art market to find a contemporary painter like JÜRGEN DURNER. I appreciate JÜRGEN DURNER, the philosopher among painters, for his original pictorial inventions, the differentiated degree of abstraction of his paintings and his timelessly fresh palette of colours. For decades, the artist has been drawn to the streets and alleys of the big city at night. He searches for and finds fascinating insights, views, reflections and reflexions, which he photographs and then transforms into his special paintings. No completed painting by the artist is then revealed to the viewer at first glance. The viewer is magically drawn into the interior of the painting. In order to decipher it, it ultimately requires a second and often a third look.” – Michael W. Schmalfuß (translated from German)

“With my painting I try to build a bridge that allows the viewer of my pictures to go into other, unknown spaces, to leave the familiar field of his seeing and to penetrate into deeper layers of his consciousness. The means to this end is the transformation of reality through superimposition, reflection, blurring and alienation. The dissolution of the fabric of reality into coloured light accompanies the process of transformation from the representational image to the abstract image. It is only in abstraction that the psychic factors of a pictorial idea are exposed and a kind of supersensuality is achieved, as it were, by means of coloured condensation. It is not a question here of depicting a specific place or even documenting the current cityscape; rather, the urban architecture is used as a pretext, like a stage set, to prepare the actual pictorial event by layering different levels. This event can then ultimately only be the effect of the image on our inner being, a movement of the soul, a rapture. The leaving of the worldly.”- JÜRGEN DURNER (translated from German)
