until 20.01. | #3754ARTatBerlin | Köppe Contemporary shows from 26th November 2022 (Opening: 25.11.) the exhibition “From the Suburbs of Reason to the Valley below” by the artist Jim Avignon accompanied by works by the artist duo 44flavours.
Jim Avignon is one of the most idiosyncratic players on the art scene. As an all-round artist, he has made a name for himself internationally as a painter, draughtsman, musician, animator and organiser of street art and action art projects as well as happenings. Jim Avignon realises his themes with the means of the grotesque, satire and caricature. His motifs reflect an unreserved interest in all aspects of everyday life. Themes such as love, sexuality and death are juxtaposed with social and societal themes. His themes of the big city as well as environmental destruction often allude to the ignorance of modern society, which seeks its salvation in repression and ignores the state of real danger that has long since occurred.
44flavours, Late for lunch, 2020, Ink, acrylic, pigments,
Matt varnish on unprimed canvas, 190 x 150 cm
In addition to new works by Jim Avignon, the exhibition also features paintings, prints, objects and sculptures as well as ceramics by Sebastian Bagge and Julio Rölle alias 44flavours. With powerful colours, the duo creates a pop mix of paintings that also incorporates figurations and spatial hints as well as signs. With their abstract, often geometric patterns, colour figures and optical effects, the art of the Berlin duo is reminiscent of Op Art.
