Galerie Pugliese Levi zeigt von Sonntag, 21. März bis Donnerstag, 25. März 2021 ein Werk des Künstlers Shawn Stipling. Die Ausstellungsreihe heißt one by one, in der jeweils ein Werk einer Künstlerin oder eines Künstlers der Galerie für einige Tage im Galerieschaufenster gezeigt wird.

Gallery Pugliese Levi will be showing a work by artist Shawn Stipling from Sunday 21 March to Thursday 25 March 2021. The exhibition series is called one by one, in which one work by each of the gallery’s artists is shown for a few days in the gallery window.

„I often look through my old sketchbooks to rethink ideas which have been overlooked – either because they were not quite right for that particular moment or because I had not yet worked out how to go about making them. This piece is one of those, a recurrent image first appearing in around 2012 and reasserting itself sporadically over the years. In 2020 one of these reoccurrences coincided with some experiments I was doing with stretched canvas over board. I liked the idea that the addition of canvas gave the harsh geometry a softer edge. It is important to me that the works not only have a strong graphic presence but also the capability to draw in the viewer and tell a deeper story. I made two ‘Environments’, one larger one with two different whites and a slightly smaller reconfigured version in ultramarine blue.“

Shawn Stipling, born 1967 in Chester, UK, studied photography at The University of Wolverhampton. He lives and works in Cambridge and is represented in Germany, the Netherlands and the United States. His works have been shown at Galerie van den Berge, Netherlands (Where Parallel Lines, 2019), RAUMX Project Space, London, UK (SHIFT, with Martina Geccelli, 2018), Galerie van den Berge (Beasts Like Us, 2018), Galerie Floss & Schultz, Cologne, Germany (Sightlines, 2017) and Gray Contemporary, Houston, TX, USA (In Other Words, 2016) among others. Stipling’s works were first shown at Galerie Pugliese Levi in the exhibition almost nothing, 2019, and subsequently on the occasion of his first solo show in Berlin Varying Ideas of Almost in 2020.
