Galerie Kornfeld beschließt am Donnerstag, 18. Oktober 2018 von 18:30–21:00 Uhr mit einer Finissage die Ausstellung mit Collagen des syrischen Künstlers Tammam Azzam. Dazu lädt die Galerie zu einem Gespräch mit Fred Abrahams, um über die aktuelle Situation in Syrien zu diskutieren. Der Künstler wird ebenfalls anwesend sein.
Galerie Kornfeld is pleased to invite you to a special talk with Fred Abrahams who will discuss reports on the current situation in Syria, as observed by the Human Rights Watch.

Fred Abrahams is responsible for training Human Rights Watch research staff, developing research methodology, and conducting investigations in conflict areas around the world. He has documented human rights and laws-of-war violations in places such as Albania, Bangladesh, Iraq, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Sri Lanka, Syria, and Israel, Gaza and the West Bank. He has authored numerous articles and op-eds on human rights and the laws of war and co-authored “A Village Destroyed: War Crimes in Kosovo” (University of California Press, 2002). His book,“ Modern Albania: From Dictatorship to Democracy in Europe” (NYU Press, 2015), describes the fall of communism and turbulent transition in Albania. Abrahams has a bachelor’s degree in German and International Studies and a master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University. He speaks German and Albanian, and is featured in the 2014 documentary film “E-Team.”
Tammam Azzam holds a degree in painting from the University of Damascus. After getting acquainted for the first time in 2001, he was closely associated with Syrian-born Berlin artist Marwan Kassab-Bashi until the latter’s death in 2016. Tammam Azzam’s works have been shown internationally, e.g. at Ayyam Gallery in Dubai, at Art Dubai and Untitled Miami as well as at Haines Gallery San Francisco, which also presented him successfully at the Armory Show in New York in 2018. His works can be found in renowned institutions such as the Barjeel Art Foundation in Sharjah, the Atassi Foundation or the For Site Foundation in San Francisco, for which he has created new projects. In 2019, the Haines Gallery in San Francisco will dedicate a solo exhibition to him.
