until 21.04. | #0443ARTatBerlin | galerie gerken presents from the 11th March 2016 the exhibition with Tinka Bechert and Nils Kasiske.
Tinka Bechert´s work explores the relationship of history and science, of memory and of past and present. Complex pictoral space reveals the absurdity of human nature as reality and potential. A distinct sense of humor counteracts the unsettling ups and downs of these alternate worlds. Like a recently opened window, Bechert´s paintings, collages and drawings offer dramatic new vistas. Floating, shimmering color meets form and figure. Anchoring both stability and instability as elements, these delicate balancing acts of abstraction and figurative elements are held together by a quietly poetic and assured confidence.
Nils Kasiske conjures up and mocks passing fashions and current hype. His work connects classical and contemporary iconographies in amusing exaggerations. Image cultivation and stardom are presented in an ironic manner that ridicules the longing for role models and authority figures. Kasiske´s current body of work samples various styles of established artists. Undermining the idolization of celebrity, he replaces it with sharp irony: Jesus Christ, Snoop Dog, Angela Merkel and the remote control are all equally holy- you can pick and choose your idol- whatever suits. And Kasiske´s featherlight crumpled up piece of paper is weightier than you think.
