until 30.10. | #3128ARTatBerlin | Galerie Pugliese Levi presents since 14th August 2021 the first solo exhibition “Shapes and Shadows” with recent paper works by artist and scenographer Claudia Doderer.

““Though the base material is still the model board of earlier days, slightly colored, layered in so many different shades of white, what is of interest to Claudia Doderer today is the little, the pure, the contours, the shadow, the cautiously unwieldy, the quiet resistances.”
(Gertrud Leutenegger, 2020)

„Claudia Doderer’s works emerge from her deep understanding of music. Angles and proportions are then as important as keys and tones. Folds and cuts produce spatial effects, indeed they create spaces for extended perception. Immersion into the material fully exploits its potentials instead of reaching incessantly for something new. In this way her art produces new subtleties which challenge and surprise us. And which, when we have taken our time and looked closely, will delight us.”
(Dr. Bernd Feuchtner, 2020)

Claudia Doderer was born in Wiesbaden and lives in Berlin. She graduated from the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Berlin where she studied with Achim Freyer in the master class for stage design and experimental composition with Dieter Schnebel. Since 1986, she has directed and created stage design for classical works from the repertoire as well as for premieres of contemporary works at international venues and opera houses. A main focus of her work is on collaborations with contemporary composers and the development of abstract spatial concepts for music.
She was a fellow at the Villa Aurora, Los Angeles, in 2012 and since then has devoted her artistic research to the topic of music and space. She has been guest lecturer at music conservatories and art academies throughout the world including Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst (Frankfurt am Main), CalArts (California), Aalto University Helsinki (Finland), China Academy of Fine Arts (Hangzhou). Since 2017 Claudia Doderer focuses on the creation of spatial models and paper objects, which have been on view in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
